What I wouldn't do for your Fuel Prices
Not often, but I have heard Americans complain about fuel prices. I once tried to work out how much you pay compared to us and got it completely wrong. But I think I have got it right this time, and the result are surprising. So I found one of the highest prices I could find, which was California where according to my source, you can expect to pay $3.14/ US gallon. This equates to £1.60 per US gallon, or as we use litres that is £0.42 per Litre! When you consider we pay about £1.06 per litre, at most you are paying less than half of what we pay.For you, imagine going to your petrol and the sign reads $7.87 per gallon. How would that feel. All the time BP and Shell are rubbing salt into the wounds by breaking records for profits made by British companies. They have got us by the short and curlies, we all need it, we have no choice but to pay it. If only there were more independent petrol stations, not owned by the giants. Although, I'm sure they would go bust in a couple of weeks, or instantly get bought up by the bigger boys.Of course it is all relative, the price of living in the UK and other European countries is generally higher than in the US, and a lot of...
What's the cost of gas per gallon/ litre in your neck of the woods?
Gas prices are hovering around $3.00 a gallon here in the Southeastern US. What is the price of gas where you live? Do you do anything special to conserve gas now that it's gotten so expensive? My Ford Explorer, which averaged 15-19 mpg, has died. I bought a new car, a VW Golf that is smaller and gets about 35 mpg. While it is not the big hunkin SUV I've been accustomed to, it sure is nice to top off the gas tank at 10 gallons and then driving 350 plus miles than chugging almost 20 gallons to fill up the Explorer tank. I also combine my trips now. When I freelanced I would drive here and there without thought. Now I schedule interviews and photo shoots back to back so that I take care of them all on one trip. I also don't commute to work five days a week. I spend two or three days working out of the house. How has the gas prices changed your driving life?
Even MORE Big Brotherism coming! (long, but you need this!)
[b]Yes, on top of all the other unconstitutional things the current administration is trying to do, there's THIS (unashamedly pilfered from WND's website[em]happy[/em] Oh, & all italics/ emphases aremine...):---------------- WND Exclusive LIFE WITH BIG BROTHER Congressman wants government GPS in cars; Proposes mileage-based gas tax that would monitor travels. Posted: August 05, 2k9By Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDailyRep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore, an Oregon congressman, says he wants to test having a government GPS unit in every car so a tax could be imposed on the miles driven. The proposal, H.R. 3311, which calls for a test project costing $150 million-plus, was introduced by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore."Oregon has successfully tested a Vehicle Miles Traveled fee, and it is time to expand and test the VMT program across the country," he said in a statement on his website. "A VMT system can better assess fees based on use of our roads and bridges, as well as during times of peak congestion, than a fee based on fuel consumption."It is time to get creative & find smart ways to rebuild & renew America's deteriorating infrastructure," he said. His plan...
The fair distribution of wealth
With the election a couple of days off, I want to ask the Obama supporters what will be the fair distribution of wealth?I will illustrate the current distribution of wealth for a small business owner in the state of Maine. I am not an accountant but I am a small business owner that does his own taxes so I believe all of these figures to be accurate but there may be small variances. For this illustration John Doe has built his own business up from scratch over the course of 20 years. He is married and has an adjusted income (after personal, child etc... deductions) of $350,000.1. For federal income tax he pays 10% on the first $8025, 15% on the next $24525, 25% on the next $46300, 28% on the next $85700, and 33% on the next $185450. This would be a grand total of $100,528.502. For Maine state income tax, he pays 2% on the first $4750, 4.5% on the next $4700, 7% on the next $9500, and 8.5% on the next $331050. This would be an additional $29110.753. For Social Security he would pay 12.4% on his first $106,800. This would be an additional $13243.204. For medicare tax he would pay 2.9% on $350000. This would be an additional $10150.5. He owns a $350,000 home...
John McCain's economic plan
This would be my second stance of discussions to bring the issues of the US general Election to mylot. In this discussion I would lay out the facts of John McCain's economic plan. McCain's economic plan in brief.John McCain intends to increase the strength of the US dollar. In actual fact, it is not the supply demand issue that surfaced this year that caused the spike in oil. It is the devaluation of the US$. John McCain would like to strengthen the US$ and thus decrease prices.John McCain would wants a summer tax holiday which would decrease the price of petrol by 18 cents a gallon and decrease diesel price by 22.4 cents. This takes place from Memorial day (last Monday of May) to Labor day (first Monday in September).John McCain wants to repeal the 54cents a gallon tax on foreign sugar based ethanol like Brazil. He hopes to increase competition and thus decrease the price at the pump.John McCain would roll back on corn based ethanol mandates. He believes that this contributes to the rise in cost of food.John McCain is against using the taxpayer's dollars to bail out any real estate speculators and market participants. John McCain wants to initiate a...
Are you affected by increased fuel costs?
Duty on petrol and diesel has risen by 2p today in the first of three Fuel Tax rises planned for the next 18 months. How will the increase affect you? The increase could push up the average price of unleaded petrol to about 98p, while diesel could exceed £1 if the cost is passed on to motorists. The rise in duty was first announced in Gordon Brown's 2007 Budget when he was chancellor, and has been defended by the government saying it sends out the right environmental messages. But the Petrol Retailer's Association are warning it could put some filling stations out of business. Is this move good for the environment? Do you run a petrol station? How will this increase affect your business? How will this price rise affect you as a motorist? How much are you paying for petrol? e at the pump.John McCain would roll back on corn based ethanol mandates. He believes that this contributes to the rise in cost of food.John McCain is against using the taxpayer's dollars to bail out any real estate speculators and market participants. John McCain wants to initiate a HOME plan. This is to trade off a difficult mortgage with a more...
